1. Who is responsible
Koffee is the data controller for the Koffee iPhone app and this website. Questions, privacy requests and account concerns can be sent to [email protected].
2. Information Koffee handles
Account and profile
Your name, display name, handle, email address, authentication provider, profile photo, profile visibility choices, account status and internal user identifier.
Coffee content
The drinks, ratings, notes, cafe names, addresses, coordinates, dates, prices, photos, posts, comments, likes, saved cafes and other details you choose to add. Private Journal logs remain private to your account. Public posts are visible according to the audience and location choices you make.
Location
With permission, Koffee uses device location to suggest an area, narrow cafe predictions, show nearby places, provide map routing and offer a nearby-cafe prompt. You can deny location access and enter an area manually. Koffee stores coordinates with a log only when needed for that log; hiding an exact location removes exact coordinates from the public post.
Connections and safety
Follow relationships, requests, blocks, reports, moderation decisions and limited records needed to prevent spam, enforce rate limits and protect the community.
Device and service information
Push-notification tokens, Firebase installation identifiers, App Check signals, app version, feature configuration, crash diagnostics and limited product-interaction information used to operate and improve Koffee. Koffee does not use this information for advertising.
3. How information is collected
Koffee receives information directly from you when you register, edit a profile, create or share a log, interact with another member, contact support, or choose a permission. It also receives technical information automatically from the app and service providers when Koffee is used.
4. Why Koffee uses information
- Provide accounts, private Journals, social feeds, search, maps, notifications, exports and deletion.
- Show content to the audience you selected and calculate personal insights, streaks and recaps.
- Predict cafes and areas, route to places and offer a nearby-cafe prompt when location permission is granted.
- Review photos, respond to reports, block abusive behaviour and keep the service secure.
- Diagnose crashes, improve reliability, answer support requests and communicate important service changes.
For people in the EEA or UK, Koffee relies on performance of its service agreement for core account features, consent for optional permissions such as location, photos and notifications, legitimate interests in security and service improvement, and legal obligations where applicable. Consent can be withdrawn through iPhone Settings or the controls in Koffee.
5. Service providers
Koffee uses carefully selected providers only to operate the service:
- Google Firebase and Google Cloud for authentication, databases, storage, server functions, push delivery, App Check, crash diagnostics and photo safety review.
- Apple for TestFlight/App Store distribution, Sign in with Apple, MapKit search and routing, device permissions and Apple Push Notification service.
- Google Sign-In when you choose Google as your authentication provider.
Providers process information under their own platform terms and contractual safeguards. Koffee requires providers handling Koffee data to protect it consistently with this policy and applicable law. Information may be processed outside your country using legally recognised transfer safeguards where required.
6. Photos and moderation
Post and profile photos are checked for potentially unsafe content before publication using Google Cloud Vision SafeSearch. Uncertain scans may be held for manual review rather than published automatically. Members can report content and block accounts. Koffee may remove content or restrict accounts that breach the Community Rules.
7. Retention and deletion
Account data and content are kept while your account is active or as needed to provide Koffee. Push tokens are removed when you sign out, delete your account or when they become invalid. Security and moderation records may be retained for a limited period when reasonably necessary to prevent abuse, resolve disputes or meet legal obligations. Provider backups may take additional time to expire under their normal rotation schedules.
You can delete individual logs and posts at any time. To delete the complete account and associated content, open Settings → Account Data → Delete Account. Koffee requires a recent sign-in before destructive deletion. Guest data stays on the device and is removed when local data is cleared or the app is deleted.
8. Your choices and rights
- Edit profile information and privacy defaults inside Koffee.
- Turn location, photo or notification permission off in iPhone Settings.
- Export a machine-readable copy from Settings → Account Data.
- Request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability or objection where applicable by emailing Koffee.
- Withdraw consent without affecting processing that occurred before withdrawal.
You may also raise a concern with your local data-protection authority. In Ireland, this is the Data Protection Commission.
9. Children
Koffee is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal data contrary to applicable law, contact Koffee so it can be investigated and removed.
10. Changes and contact
This policy will be updated when Koffee's features, providers or legal obligations materially change. The effective date above will change, and significant updates may also be announced in the app.
